Custom 'Smart' Insoles Combat Dangerous Diabetic Foot Ulcers

Israeli startup Actics Medical has developed a smart insole, Hybrid+, that can monitor a diabetic patient’s feet in real time and alert their doctor of a potential ulceration weeks before it develops. The insole is equipped with built-in sensors that measure the pressure, temperature, and motion of the foot. The data is presented in real time in an accompanying app. The insole can be adjusted in 52 different ways to redistribute the pressure in the foot and help prevent ulceration. The company plans to begin a new multi-center clinical trial next month and expects the insoles to be available through US insurance by mid-next year.
