Boeing Partners with Israel's National Carrier EL AL on Innovation
Boeing has partnered with Cockpit Innovation, the tech investment arm of EL AL Israel Airlines. Boeing has invested in Cockpits venture arm, with the aim of supporting the scale-up of technologies in the aviation and aerospace industries. Since 2015, major plane manufacturers and carriers have been setting up initiatives to tap into innovation from startups. Boeing has also established a venture capital arm called Boeing HorizonX and has made investments in 11 startups. The partnership with Cockpit Innovation aligns with Boeings strategic vision for the aerospace industry. In November, Lufthansa Systems also announced a partnership with Cockpit Innovation.

BidFlyer teams with El Al to auction unbooked seats
El Al Israel Airlines will start holding flight ticket auctions on its website and the site of its low-cost brand Up. This capability was developed by the Israeli startup BidFlyer, whose system enables online bidding for vacant flight seats. The potential is huge: according to the International Air Transportation Association (IATA), the average plane occupancy rate worldwide is 79.7%, leaving over 20% of tickets unsold. BidFlyers concept is based on systems identifying flights with the potential of not being fully booked based on their destination or date. Seats expected to remain empty will be auctioned on a daily basis. El Al will launch the auctions after the October holidays and the Bid2Fly system will be first integrated as a pilot initially enabling to bid only for tourist class tickets.
