Delaying dialysis for patients with chronic kidney disease

Tel Aviv-based KidneyCure has developed a technology that could delay the start of dialysis for chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients, improving their quality of life. The approach involves removing some of the patients unhealthy kidney cells, processing them into healthy cells, and reintroducing these healthy cells into the patients kidney. KidneyCure has received a $4 million first round of funding from Aurum Ventures and Direct Insurance to begin human testing in 2019. If successful, a product could be available for patients as early as the mid-2020s.

Israeli cell therapy co KidneyCure raises $4m

KidneyCure, an Israeli end-stage renal disease cell therapy company, has announced an expansion of its financing round with new investors, bringing the total raised to $4 million. The company develops a treatment using a mini-kidney produced from the patients cells to support the activity of the diseased kidney. The main benefit is the postponement of the need for dialysis or a kidney transplant. KidneyCures CEO is Dr. Alon Yaar, founder of NeuroDerm, acquired for $1.1 billion.
