Study Shows Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) Protocols Can Improve Cognitive Function in Stroke Patients
The Sagol Center for Hyperbaric Medicine and Research announced study results indicating that its hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) protocols induce significant improvement in cognitive function of stroke patients. The study showed that the HBOT protocols supply the energy needed for brain tissue recovery, regardless of the stroke location or cause. The study evaluated the sustained impact of the centers HBOT protocols on various cognitive domains and found that 86% of stroke patients achieved clinically significant improvement in their cognitive function. The memory domain showed the most prominent improvements. The study highlights the potential for treating stroke-related cognitive deficits as brain wounds and the ability to recover injured brain tissue even years after the stroke. NJIT start-up company NeuroTrax named best in show
NeuroTrax Corporation, a start-up company, has developed a computer software program for early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and other diseases. The program, called Mindstreams®, provides real-time objective measurement of cognitive function, enabling early diagnosis and treatment for memory loss. NeuroTrax won the most coveted title at a recent New Jersey Technology Council competition. The company is based at NJIT’s business incubator program, the Enterprise Development Center. NeuroTrax is among 83 similar technology enterprises at the Center. The software program has been established in scientific publications and presented at international conferences. NeuroTrax aims to provide a faster and more reliable way for physicians to track patients progress over time.

The Mindstreams Cognitive Health Assessment software provides medical professionals with an objective measurement of cognitive function parameters and has been clinically proven to detect cognitive impairment associated with Alzheimers disease and other conditions. The company aims to track patient progress over time and compare results with normative data from over 1,500 individuals. The cost of Alzheimers disease and dementia in the United States is estimated to be over $148 billion annually.
