Optics still shining: Net-gen systems developer PacketLight raises $18m
PacketLight Networks has completed its second financing round, raising $18 million. The lead investor in this round was the Carlyle Group, with participation from Portview Communications, Polaris Venture Capital, and ADC. The company, which specializes in optical switching, plans to launch an optical switch in early 2001 that will connect the Internets backbone with metro networks. PacketLight is considered one of ADCs most promising portfolio companies. The recent financing round was completed at a higher company valuation than the previous round, although the exact valuation was not disclosed. PacketLight currently employs over 65 workers and is in the process of recruiting workers in the United States.
