Prisma Photonics, an Israeli infrastructure monitoring company, has completed an oversubscribed $30 million financing round, bringing its total capital raised to $80 million. The round was led by Protego Ventures, with participation from Adara Ventures, a leading Latin America Transmission operators investment arm, and existing investors Insight Partners, Chione Switzerland, and SE Ventures. Prisma Photonics uses AI-driven technology to transform optical fibers into an advanced infrastructure monitoring platform. Their technology is deployed across thousands of kilometers of critical infrastructure worldwide, including 15 Tier-1 Transmission System Operators in the US and Europe. The funding will accelerate their mission to enhance infrastructure safety and resilience.

Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) has signed an agreement with Prisma Photonics to use optical fibers to monitor 1,000 km of the national transmission grid. This represents 20% of the total grid. Prismas solution will monitor events threatening the regular operation of the power network and alert on faults with exact geographical locations. The system will also collect weather and grid data to optimize the existing network and better integrate renewable energy sources. IEC invested an undisclosed sum in Prisma last year, believed to be several million dollars. Prisma also raised $20 million in February from various investors.

The technology uses existing optical fiber infrastructure as a sensor, analyzing minute changes in optical signal characteristics resulting from external events. The solution, PrismaPower, can identify safety and maintenance events along power lines, such as equipment tampering, people climbing on power poles, localized power supply disruptions, short circuits, and even weather conditions that threaten power lines. The solution is currently monitoring about 100 kilometers of power lines.

Prisma Photonics ltd has signed a deal with the Israeli government-owned company Natural Gas Lines (NGL) to provide monitoring services for natural gas pipelines. The system, called PrismaFlow, will continuously monitor and track segments of the gas pipeline in Israel, initially as a pilot over a distance of 50-100 km. Depending on the results, the system may be permanently and extensively implemented. The new system operates differently and aims to add another layer to the monitoring and control system of the gas pipeline.
