Israeli agriculture scientist Samuel Gan-Mor has developed a new approach to pest control in crops using a mixture of edible oils. The solution, developed at the Volcani Institute, is being marketed as a new organic pesticide alternative that is 100 percent safe. The oil-based pest control method is simple, inexpensive, and effective in keeping insects and fungi at bay. The Volcani Institute is partnering with a company called Shelef to test the oil formulations at 20 different farms in Israel. The solution can be created moments before use and is suitable for smaller farms. Shelef is already selling a complete system to interested farmers.
