Shimeba Overview

Shimeba combines location technologies with a simple user interface to provide users with a indoor navigation solutions. The company uses Wi-Fi-based positioning in conjunction with other methods to measure the intensity of the received signal from pre-existing access points inside buildings. In addition, it also uses Bluetooth-based positioning that supports Android and iOS applications. The sensors available on the user's mobile device, such as the accelerometer, magnometer, and gyroscope, add another layer that can be used to detect the user's movement, pace, and heading. Shimeba's meter-precise location technology can spot each visitor's exact location inside the venue and can then easily direct them to their destinations, even in complex structures.

Lost in the mall? Israeli startups have an app for you

Israeli startup Shimeba developed an app called EasyDizi for Dizengoff Center, a shopping mall in Tel Aviv, to provide indoor navigation. However, the market for navigation apps inside buildings did not gain momentum due to technology obstacles and the absence of an attractive business model. Now, a new generation of Israeli startups is focusing on indoor navigation for robots and drones. These startups are developing technologies using hardware solutions, WiFi, cellphone networks, magnetic fields, or a combination of these. Some startups mentioned in the article include Oriient, which uses the earths magnetic field, and IntraPosition, which uses the Ultra Wideband (UWB) protocol.
