Tracxpoint, a Tel Aviv-based startup specializing in self-checkout technology, will provide its AI-enabled smart shopping cart platform to Italian grocer Conad del Tirreno. The company expects to sign additional contracts in the U.S. and EU in 2019.

The Israeli startup that wants to make shopping carts smarter
Israeli startup Tracxpoint has developed an Artificial Intelligence Cart (AIC) for supermarkets. The AIC is a shopping cart equipped with four cameras that automatically identify and add products to the shoppers bill. It eliminates the need for checkout lines as the shopper can simply walk out of the store with everything already paid for. Tracxpoints previous innovation was a shopping cart terminal that eliminated the need for a deposit. The company plans to deploy the AICs in stores belonging to the Italian Conad del Tirreno supermarket chain in 2019. Tracxpoint is also raising its first outside capital and expects to sign contracts with three major retailers. The founders believe that while supermarkets may evolve, they will not disappear from the physical world.
