Gaia Bio is focused on using a new gene editing technology and proprietary methodology to drastically increase the yields of precision fermentation processes and the effectiveness of bacterial bioremediation and biomining processes. The company’s innovative approach enables it to engineer a wide array of environmental/wild-type bacteria, as opposed to other companies that can effectively engineer only a limited set of lab-type bacteria. Gaia Bio’s approach is critical for building successful bioleaching and biomining applications, as most require the target bacteria to thrive in acidic environments, which is very hard to achieve with lab-type bacteria. Gaia Bio’s method can provide up to a fivefold increase in yield of bacteria-based products by finding the best-equipped host (bacteria) for the production of a specific biological product.

Gaia Bio was founded in 2021 by Nikita Shenkar (Co-founder & CEO).
