What does Leviticus Cardio do?
Leviticus Cardio is developing a wireless system capable of providing the day-to-day power needs for implanted ventricular assist devices (VADs) while eliminating the complications related to the drive line. The companys solution uses a proprietary technology called Coplanar Energy Transfer (CET), which can work with all available commercial VADs. CET uses a receiver coil implanted next to the VAD device and an external transmitter coil worn around the chest, with both coils in the same plane. The transmitter coil encircles the receiver coil and inductively transfers electromagnetic power to it from all directions. The CET system can supply up to 30 watts at between 80% and 90% efficiency. Leviticus Cardio performed system integration of its CET technology with four commercial VADs and tested the solution in vitro and in vivo. These tests showed reliable energy transfer and pump operation for long periods of time.
