SolBine

SolBine repurposes decommissioned wind turbines to create a multi-functional energy system, incorporating photovoltaic (PV) panels that hang from the blades like a Venetian blind. This innovative design allows for retractable solar panels during strong winds, enhancing safety. The setup casts shade over crops, making it versatile for different agricultural applications. The system generates electricity throughout the day, increasing capacity and reducing the load on the grid as well as the need for additional energy storage. It addresses land scarcity issues by occupying just a few dozen square meters for a 1MW system. Additionally, SolBine increases solar capacity by approximately 50% by mitigating the effects of PV shading, incorporating 2-axis tracking, and utilizing low-angle sunlight. By reusing existing wind turbine components such as foundations, towers, and blades, SolBine offers a sustainable solution to blade waste and lowers the overall cost of the solar energy system.
