About
ECOncrete’s technology enables the construction of nature-positive marine infrastructure. Their solutions have been implemented in dozens of projects globally in ports, piers, breakwaters, subsea and other concrete infrastructures to promote and restore biodiversity at scale. Infrastructure built using the 3-tiered ECOncrete technology becomes encrusted in rich marine life, such as tubeworms, oysters, and barnacles. This living layer provides ecosystem services, improves the structure's durability, and performs as a carbon sink and self-mitigating, carbon-storing structure. The biogenic buildup also provides substantial structural and economic advantages in terms of increased stability and longevity, and a reduction in maintenance. Other unique advantages include: manufactured by local construction and concrete providers; seamless integration into any concrete infrastructure; permit acceleration and mitigation opportunities; adaptable solutions with ECOncrete proprietary or tailored design integration; a science-based, interdisciplinary team support in all project stages. Over the last 10 years, the award-winning technology has undergone prolonged R&D and validation processes based on ground-breaking academic research and continued through lab testing, industry certifications, and numerous pilots globally. The results demonstrate that concrete structures built using ECOncrete technology significantly increase biodiversity, species richness, and abundance, as well as reduce the dominance of invasive species, in comparison to standard (ie. Portland) cement-based structures.
