WindStore Energy is developing an energy storage system that integrates compressed air energy storage (CAES) within wind masts. This approach provides a low-cost, environmentally friendly long-duration energy storage (LDES) solution for the wind energy sector. With the global wind capacity currently at 900GW and projections indicating growth to 3TW installations by 2030, accompanied by a corresponding energy storage market of $435Bn, 358GW/1,028GWh, there is a pressing need for innovative storage solutions. By storing energy within the wind mast using CAES, WindStore's system offers a cost-effective method. This design means that any wind farm equipped with our technology has the potential to compete favorably with dispatchable fossil plants. Moreover, by leveraging the infrastructure of existing wind farms, the cost per kWh of storage can be significantly reduced. The conversion of traditionally non-dispatchable wind energy into a dispatchable source stands out as a primary benefit.
