Israeli company AgroCulture, in partnership with the Migal Research Institute, has developed a method to significantly reduce the time it takes to prepare avocado seedlings, from 18 months to just 8. The process also promises disease-free plants that can be exported abroad, and significantly reduces the mortality rate after planting. The company has already developed a process for the cultivation of the Shiller avocado variety, which will be marketed mainly to growers in Israel. The company is currently in an advanced process to produce additional commercial varieties suitable for other areas in Israel and the world.
