Israeli startup Alma has developed a navigation system that does not rely on GPS, but instead uses the sensors found in every smartphone. The inertial system measures the angular speed and acceleration of a vehicle in three different axes. The data is processed in real time by deep learning algorithms developed by the company. The system can work alongside GPS to improve the quality and frequency of location solutions. Alma is currently testing the technology with Bolt, one of Ubers biggest competitors in Europe. The company has raised $1.7 million in a pre-seed round from a group of Israeli angel investors.
