Astroscale Israel Ltd operates as the R&D branch of the company, focusing on satellite servicing research and payload development for the life extension of GEO satellites. Located in Israel, the facility is equipped with a clean room dedicated to the mechanical design, production, and assembly of space systems. Additionally, it houses a specialized computer vision robotics laboratory. This lab is instrumental in developing and testing algorithms for rendezvous and proximity operations (RPO) pertinent to satellite life extension and other on-orbit services. The laboratory's capabilities allow for the simulation of the LEXI (Life Extension In-orbit) servicer's approach to client satellites in orbit.

Astroscale, Orbit Fab are helping refuel satellites in space, clean up space junk

Astroscale, a private orbital debris removal company, has signed a commercial agreement with Orbit Fab, a refueling service provider, to refuel Astroscales Life Extension In-Orbit (LEXI) Servicer in geostationary orbit. The agreement allows Orbit Fab to resupply Astroscales fleet of LEXI Servicers with up to 1,000 kilograms of Xenon propellant. Astroscales LEXI spacecraft is designed to perform life extension services for commercial operators and governments. The partnership aims to improve the level of service provided to customers and eliminate the link between satellite size and fuel capacity. Orbit Fab is backed by investors including Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman. Astroscale believes that the Israeli space tech industry can become a global player by encouraging more innovation and partnering with U.S. companies.
