Siemens and Boson Energy enter agreement to accelerate the green energy transition through waste-to-hydrogen (to-X) technology | Press | Company | Siemens
Siemens and Boson Energy have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on waste-to-hydrogen technology, aiming to convert non-recyclable waste into clean energy. This partnership seeks to advance sustainable energy solutions, particularly in hydrogen-powered electric vehicle charging infrastructure, without affecting grid stability or consumer prices. Siemens will provide technological support to Boson Energy, helping to create a scalable and repeatable solution for converting waste into hydrogen. The collaboration is part of a broader effort to combat climate change and reduce CO₂ emissions. Boson Energy plans to establish over 300 plants to produce 1 million tons of hydrogen from waste by 2030, starting in Europe and expanding globally. The agreement was signed at the ACHEMA Fair in Frankfurt.

'World's first carbon-negative port' pins hopes on hydrogen-derived methanol to replace fossil fuels in industry
Luxembourg-based Boson Energy has proposed a €450m ($490m) project to produce up to 70,000 tonnes of green hydrogen-derived methanol per year, and power a 10MW fuel cell at the Wallhamn AB port on Sweden’s Tjörn island. The project, which aims to make the port the worlds first carbon-negative port, involves melting down municipal waste to produce a syngas of hydrogen, methane, carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide. The syngas is then processed into hydrogen and carbon dioxide. Boson plans to announce deals with existing users of grey, fossil gas-based methanol, mostly in the chemicals and plastics industry. The project has received approval from the port’s municipal authority, with a final investment decision due in 2025.

Startup harvests hydrogen from local nonrecyclable trash - ISRAEL21c
Israeli-Swedish-Polish company Boson Energy is developing a technology to produce affordable carbon-negative hydrogen from waste. The companys solution uses gasification to extract hydrogen from nonrecyclable waste and biomass, while capturing carbon dioxide emissions. Boson Energy aims to set up its waste-to-energy plants in urban areas to provide local power. The hydrogen produced can be used for various applications, including fast charging of electric vehicles, while the carbon dioxide can be stored or used in industries. The company targets municipalities and other potential clients as customers. Boson Energy recently completed a bootcamp to connect with investors and customers, and its first project is expected to be operational in 2024. The companys investors include Bengt Andersson and Per-Anders Hjort.
