Israeli app pushes iPad closer to medical-device territory
Israeli health-tech firm Voyant has received FDA approval for its app designed to help doctors plan hip replacements. The app allows doctors to import images from secure hospital networks, insert digital implant images to determine the best surgery techniques for each case, visualize an operation, and use the resulting data for review or consultation. The app is a mobile version of Voyants TraumaCad platform, which has been in use on desktops for over a decade. Voyant was acquired by German firm BrainLab in 2001.

Brainlab buys orthopedic imaging co Voyant Health for $10m
Voyant Health, an Israeli medical software developer, has been acquired by Germanys Brainlab for over $10 million. Brainlab, a distributor for Voyant Healths TraumaCad since 2009, acquired the company to expand its own healthcare management capabilities. Voyant Healths orthopedic imaging systems are currently sold at 1,000 points of sale worldwide. The acquisition was seen as a good opportunity for Voyant Healths shareholders. The companys CEO and co-founder, Zeev Glozman, and chief medical officer, Dr. Doron Norman, are the main shareholders. Voyant Health has never received funding from venture capital funds or angel investors. The companys products, including TraumaCad and VoyantLink, have been well-received in the market, particularly in the US. Brainlab plans to integrate Voyant Healths products with its own orthopedic surgical navigation system and online medical network.
