The retired major general joins VC firm Champel Capital to back Israeli defense tech amid post-war boom.

Champel Capital, an investment firm led by Swiss investors Arié Benguigui and Amir Weitmann, has launched a new venture capital fund focused on the defense sector. The fund, spearheaded by Maj. Gen. (res.) Giora Eiland, aims to raise $100 million to invest in Israeli defense-tech companies. Eiland, leveraging his extensive experience and connections in the defense industry, plans to target companies with working products and initial sales. The fund has already secured commitments from European and American investors and is expected to close the fundraising round within two months. This initiative is part of a broader trend of Israeli VC funds capitalizing on military innovations post-October 7 attacks.

Champel Capital, a Jerusalem-based venture capital fund, has completed the first round of fundraising for its second fund, Champel Capital Impact Deep Tech Fund. The fund, which focuses exclusively on Israeli companies in the A round, will invest in sectors such as food tech, agri tech, med tech, industry 4.0, fintech, and mobility. The initial closing of the fund amounts to approximately $30 million, with the expectation of increasing the amount in the coming months. Champel Capital aims to invest in around 15 startups, with at least half of them meeting the criteria of impact investments aligned with the United Nations sustainable development goals.
