MD Anderson and Convergent R.N.R. Ltd. Establish Alliance to Further Develop New Radiation Technology with Potentially Fewer Side Effects
The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and Convergent R.N.R. Ltd. (CRnR) have announced a collaboration to develop new radiation technology aimed at reducing side effects of standard radiation. MD Anderson will work on enhancing and implementing CRnRs X-ray lens system called Mercy Beam™ to deliver tumor-killing radiation while limiting radiation to healthy organs. The study will focus on the systems use in treating head and neck, pediatric, and small tumors in various cancers. The collaboration will benefit CRnR by establishing it as a leader in treating small tumors and potentially speeding up development through preclinical and clinical trials. CRnR will develop an MLC-like collimator for MD Andersons assessment. MD Anderson will receive payments based on market capitalization, milestones toward FDA approval, and royalties for cancer treatments.

Israeli Engineer Creates Lens to Reduce Risks of Radiation Therapy...
An Israeli industrial engineer has developed a special lens called MercyBeam to improve radiation therapy, particularly for children. The lens collects three-dimensional X-rays and converges them directly onto a tumor, increasing the dosage in tumor cells while minimizing radiation to healthy tissue. The technology allows for the use of lower-energy X-rays, reducing the risks of radiation therapy in children. Convergent R.N.R. collaborated with top hospitals during development and received positive feedback. MercyBeam is expected to be more affordable than current systems, with a cost between $700,000 and $1 million. The company is seeking funding to build a prototype after receiving a grant of $700,000 from the Office of the Chief Scientist.

Radiation therapy is about to get much kinder
Israeli company Convergent RNR has developed MercyBeam, a patented lens to improve radiation therapy for patients of all ages. The lens collects three-dimensional X-rays and converges them towards the tumor, increasing the therapeutic dose while minimizing exposure to surrounding tissue. MercyBeam is smaller, lighter, and less expensive than current radiation therapy systems, making it more accessible for clinics and hospitals. The company is collaborating with top hospitals and is in discussions with others to install the system. Convergent RNR is currently raising funds to build a prototype through conventional fundraising and a twist on crowdfunding called Contribute-Match-Donate. The company aims to reduce the price of the lens by growing the metal crystals themselves. Convergent RNR is headquartered in Tirat Carmel, Israel.
