Cooking oil - the perfect pesticide
Israeli agriculture scientist Samuel Gan-Mor has developed a new approach to pest control in crops using a mixture of edible oils. The solution, developed by Gan-Mor and his colleagues at the Volcani Institute, is being marketed as a new organic pesticide alternative that is 100 percent safe. The oil-based pest control method is simple, inexpensive, and does not require a cooling-off period before harvest. The Volcani Institute is partnering with a company called Shelef to test the oil formulations at 20 different farms in Israel. Smaller farms can share a sprayer machine, and the basic materials are cheap. Shelef is already selling a complete system to interested farmers.
