The goal of the experiment is to determine the performance and cost savings of ordinary cars running on the gas-methanol mix. If successful, Ten Petroleum plans to introduce methanol at all its gas stations. The use of methanol as a fuel could save Israel NIS 15 billion a year in imported oil and refined petroleum products. However, a report questions whether the use of methanol is actually cheaper and warns of potential maintenance costs. The trial will continue with more cars if successful.
