Israeli Tech Veteran Giora Yaron Wants to Bring Israel's Bedouins Into the Tech Fold
General Electric is outsourcing jobs to a small team of Bedouin engineers through a nonprofit organization called Siraj Technologies. Siraj provides software development services, primarily for the industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) industries. The goal is to generate more tech job opportunities in the Negev region of Southern Israel and reinvest the profits in the education of the next generation of Bedouin tech professionals. Bedouins, who are traditionally underrepresented in the local job market and tech sector, face barriers such as language and culture differences and lack of networks. General Electric plans to double the team of Bedouin engineers, and Siraj aims to provide job opportunities to hundreds or even thousands of Bedouins. The founder of Siraj, Giora Yaron, is seeking government funding to support the organizations growth.

Dr. Giora Yaron: Startups need carrots not sticks
Dr. Giora Yaron, a key figure in Israels high tech industry, has been involved in numerous successful startups, including TowerJazz, Indigo NV, Mercury Interactive Corp., PentaCom, P-Cube, Qumranet, and Exanet. He has also been a director at Amdocs, which has 26,000-27,000 employees worldwide, including 6,000-7,000 in Israel. Yaron is currently chairman of the Executive Council of Tel Aviv University and is involved in bringing high tech to broader swathes of Israeli society, including the Bedouin community.
