2 Firms Win 2024 ‘Rising Startup’ Asper Prize At Hebrew University
GynTools and HydroX have jointly won the 2024 “Rising Startup” Asper Prize, hosted by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, each receiving a prize of 100,000 shekels (approx. $27,000). The prize was awarded by ASPER-HUJI Innovate, the universitys innovation center. GynTools has developed an AI-driven diagnostic tool for quick and accurate detection of vaginal infections, while HydroX has created a water-based, non-toxic liquid for storing and transporting hydrogen. The technology significantly reduces the cost of storing and transporting hydrogen, making it a viable alternative to carbon.

What started as small talk at a family dinner has developed into something that may improve the lives of many women
GynTools, a startup founded by a doctor and her family, has developed a system called GYNI for the rapid diagnosis of vaginal infections. The system uses a swab sample that is inserted into an optical scanner, which analyzes the sample and provides an accurate diagnosis within 5 minutes. GynTools claims to have over 90% successful diagnoses. The startup has completed clinical trials and received CE approval for marketing in the EU. They have also raised a seed round of $2.5 million, primarily from Israeli gynecologists and grants. However, the CEO, Nimrod Lev, states that medical developments for women do not receive sufficient funding, and they have faced difficulties in fundraising from firms.
