The Israel-US Binational Industrial Research and Development Foundation (BIRD) will invest $7 million in eight new Israeli-American projects in various hi-tech disciplines. The projects will receive conditional grants of up to $1 million each, focusing on topics such as autonomous vehicles, biotechnology, digital health, homeland security, and nanotechnology. The companies involved will also have access to private sector funding, bringing the total value of the projects to $18.5 million. The funding was approved on June 14 at a BIRD board of governors meeting. BIRD, established in 1977, has invested over $340 million in joint projects, generating more than $10 billion in revenue.

Evogene Ltd. has signed a multi-year research and development collaboration with ICL Innovation, a subsidiary of ICL, for the discovery of novel crop enhancers to improve nutrient use efficiency in selected crops. Evogene will use its computational discovery platform to identify potential compounds, and successful candidates may be integrated into ICLs product pipeline. The collaboration aims to introduce chemistry-based products that enhance crop productivity through better utilization of applied specialty fertilizers. This is Evogenes first collaboration in the specialty fertilizers market segment.

Israel Chemicals Ltd. has launched ICL Innovation, an Open Innovation program to accelerate the development of sustainable new products and processes for future growth. The company will allocate several million dollars a year to fund the program. ICL Innovation will solicit product ideas and projects from various sources and evaluate them based on technology, business model, and environmental responsibility. Selected projects will be adopted by an ICL segment for support and supervision. The program aims to reduce the time it takes to bring projects from concept to industrial implementation and provide the company with innovative products and processes.
