How Clean is the Chicago River? A New Project Wants to Show You in Real Time
Chicago nonprofit Current is piloting a project called H2NOW, which aims to provide real-time updates on the water quality of the Chicago River. The project involves using sensors developed by RS Hydro to measure levels of microbial pollution in the river and display the results online. If successful, Current plans to make the data available to the public later this year. The project is the first of its kind in the US and could potentially be expanded to measure pollution levels in other bodies of water. Current is working with various partners, including the Chicago Community Trust, to fund the project.
