Palestinian entrepreneur seeks to turn Jerusalem into startup city - together with Jews
Hani Alami, a high-tech entrepreneur and millionaire from East Jerusalem, is opening a tech accelerator in Jerusalem to promote Israel-Palestinian cooperation and make the city a high-tech intersection. Despite the violence and tensions in the region, Alami is determined to pursue his vision of bringing Israelis and Palestinians together in tech projects. The accelerator, called JEST (Jerusalem, entrepreneurship, society, and technology), aims to provide a neutral territory for collaboration. Alami believes that peace can be achieved through business rather than politics. The accelerator will offer work space, mentoring, and support to aspiring young entrepreneurs in East Jerusalem. Alami is seeking support from Israeli tech companies and has received financial assistance from various organizations.

E. Jerusalem joins startup nation
A new startup workspace-accelerator-incubator is opening in East Jerusalem with the support of local and international NGOs, governmental agencies, and Cisco Israel. The initiative aims to build an IT sector in East Jerusalem and connect startups to big companies. Cisco CEO and Chairman John Chambers has actively supported the development of the Arab high-tech sector and is providing knowhow and networking power to the project. The hub is expected to benefit the middle class and encourage business partnerships in both halves of the city. Jerusalem Venture Partners (JVP) is interested in investing in the project. The unemployment rate in East Jerusalem is the highest in the country, making the development of a high-tech startup ecosystem crucial.
