Publishing giant Macmillan buys BioData
Israeli start-up BioData has been acquired by Macmillan Publishers for a deal totaling $5-10 million. The acquisition is part of Macmillans new venture, Digital Science, aimed at providing software tools and services to scientists. BioDatas CEO, Jonathan Gross, founded the company in 2007 and it has been financed by friends and family. The companys primary market is Israel, with some international activity. Macmillan is one of the worlds largest publishing houses and publishes journals, textbooks, and academic literature. Digital Science also announced commercial partnerships with SureChem Inc. and Symplectic.
