Explosives detection: the world's first sniffer drone
Israeli technology company Laser Detect Systems (LDS) has developed a sniffer drone called SpectroDrone for remote explosives detection. The drone, equipped with LDSs R-Scan payload, has a 3km flight range and can inspect suspicious or inaccessible areas from a safe distance. The company is working on obtaining regulatory approval for commercial launch and is considering partnerships with other drone manufacturers. SpectroDrone can also be mounted on ground robots and vehicles, providing flexibility in its applications. The system is primarily targeted towards homeland security and defence applications, offering the ability to detect explosives and gas. LDS has received significant interest in the technology, particularly since it was integrated with a drone platform. The company plans to have a fully mature system ready for mass production by early next year.
