Navigation-Grade Closed-Loop MEMS Accelerometer Receives Development Contract

Physical Logic, based in Petah Tikva, Israel, has received a customer contract worth $2 million for the development of a new-generation navigation-grade closed-loop MEMS accelerometer. The accelerometer is designed to meet market needs for small size, low power consumption, and low-cost navigation-grade inertial measurement units. It features long-term bias repeatability below 0.25mg and a tunable sensing range between 15g to 70g. The new accelerometer will be added to Physical Logics existing MAXL-CL-3000 accelerometer family. Prototypes of the MAXL-CL-4000 are expected to be available by mid-2023. Physical Logic also plans to design a new closed-loop accelerometer with even better performance.

Tower and Physical Logic take on $2.6b market

Israeli company Tower Semiconductor Ltd. and Physical Logic Ltd. have announced volume production of high performance MEMS-based accelerometers. MEMS accelerometers are sensors that can be used in inertial navigation applications to calculate the direction and speed of moving objects. The IMU market is expected to reach $2.6 billion in 2015. Physical Logic has chosen TowerJazz as their foundry of choice for MEMS manufacturing.
