Gatwick Airport police have unveiled a new crime-fighting machine called the Raptor, which is a cross between a segway and a moped. The machines, on loan from manufacturer Ecospin for a one-month trial, can reach speeds of up to 25 miles per hour and have a higher vantage point. The police hope that the Raptors will improve response times to incidents and enhance police visibility. The machines cost between £7,999 and £11,000 and have been sold worldwide. The Raptor has European-type approval and is road legal in 58 countries. The police believe that the use of Raptors can deter criminals and reduce crime rates.
