Mapping the next generation of Israeli ClimateTech | CTech
PLANETech, a joint venture of the Israel Innovation Institute and Consensus Business Group, has launched a new initiative to highlight Israeli startups innovating in the climate tech sector. The initiative includes a curated map showcasing startups that are driving technological advancements to address climate challenges. This effort aims to strengthen Israels climate innovation ecosystem and foster international cooperation. The map, developed in collaboration with PLANETech’s Investor Alliance, focuses on startups with early momentum and strong innovation potential. It serves as a tool for investors, corporates, and policymakers to discover opportunities for partnerships and investments, ultimately accelerating the deployment of impactful climate solutions.

The Israel Innovation Institute has appointed Rotem Trivizki as the new CEO of PLANETech, a nonprofit climate technology innovation community in Israel. PLANETech, established by the Israel Innovation Institute and CBS, aims to enhance the global ecosystems ability to tackle climate change. Trivizki, with extensive experience in innovation and climate adaptation, is expected to lead PLANETech to new heights by fostering collaborations among startups, industry, investors, government, and academia. The former CEO, Noam Sonnenberg, will focus on expanding climate initiatives abroad. PLANETech connects various stakeholders to promote the development and adoption of climate technologies, driving investment and supporting technology integration across industries.

PLANETech launches Nature Tech competition, awarding startups $2.2 million in investments | CTech
PLANETech, a non-profit innovation community, has launched a Nature Tech Competition to accelerate nature-based solutions for protecting and restoring natural ecosystems. The competition will offer direct investments of $2.2 million, fully funded pilots, and mentorship from experts in the field of conservation and technology. The competition aims to support nature tech startups and those looking to pivot their technology to enter this emerging market. The initiative comes amid increasing investments in climate tech and a new EU Nature Restoration Law.

PLANETech, in partnership with KKL, is launching an international competition for technologies that can predict, prevent, manage, and recover from extreme weather events. The competition includes several tracks, each addressing different challenges such as wildfires, floods, extreme temperatures, and storms. Each track is funded by a different partner, and participants have the opportunity to win funding of $500,000 for pilots or investments from the partners. The goal is to find innovative solutions to climate-related disasters and make a real impact in climate resilience. The competition will be launched on May 2nd.

Beverage manufacturer AB InBev is setting up an innovation lab for Israeli startups in partnership with the innovation community PLANETech. The move comes after the company set a goal in 2021 to zero emissions in its value chain by 2040 and declared a commitment to reducing emissions and building climate resilience. The lab will operate for two and a half months and will include 10 startups that will work with representatives from the companys sustainability, supply, production, and logistics teams. Some of the startups participating in the lab will receive funding of up to $100,000 for pilot implementation.

Israeli climate-tech companies raise $2.2 billion in 2021, 57% higher than 2020 record
Israeli climate-tech companies raised $2.2 billion in funding in 2021, a 57% increase from the previous year. The highest funding rounds were secured by Future Meat ($347 million), Wiliot ($200 million), UBQ Materials ($170 million), and VIA ($130 million). Climate-tech has become a rapidly growing and promising field in the high-tech industry, with global capital raising reaching $87.5 billion over 12 months. Israeli climate tech companies are gaining attention globally, and the sector is expected to produce large-scale companies. PLANETech, a nonprofit innovation community for climate change technologies, played a role in mapping and supporting climate companies in Israel.

The Israeli Innovation Authority and PLANETech community have released the 2021 Climate Innovation Report. The report examines the current contribution and future potential of the Israeli innovation industry to the global fight against climate change. It found that 637 startups and growth companies are developing climate technologies, making up 9% of all companies established in 2020. The report also found that the most significant challenge for Israeli climate companies is project financing, according to 72% of companies. The total investment in the field reached $2.97 billion between 2018 and 2020, with the state investing a total of $280 million in promoting research and development in the climate field.

The Consensus Business Group, led by Vincent Tchenguiz, has partnered with the Israeli Institute for Innovation to launch PLANETech, a community dedicated to technological innovation to combat climate change. The Consensus Business Group, a leading investment group in Britain, has invested over $400 million in Israeli technologies, funds, greenhouses, and other initiatives. The budget for the activity will stand at NIS 1.5 million for the first year.
