While more ultra-Orthodox women work in high-tech, claims of exploitation abound
Racheli Ganot, CEO of Rachip, a hardware and software development firm, was chosen to light a torch in the state Independence Day ceremony in Jerusalem for her contribution to bringing more ultra-Orthodox women into high-tech. The employment of ultra-Orthodox women in high-tech has been on the rise, but there have been complaints about inferior working conditions. Rachip and Matrix Global, the largest company of its kind in Israel, have been criticized for exploiting ultra-Orthodox women by paying them substandard salaries. These companies offer employment conditions that suit the needs of ultra-Orthodox women, such as flexible working hours and transportation, but critics argue that they provide little opportunity for advancement. Rachips CEO defends the company, stating that Haredi engineers earn an excellent living and that women wouldnt join the company if the salary wasnt good.
