Tactile World, led by Matthew Wohl, has developed the Tactile Explorer, a device that allows blind people to interact with computer screens. The device uses braille principles to enable users to read the contents of a screen, including graphics. The Tactile Explorer also has a built-in screen reader and navigation capabilities. The device is currently being tested by students and adults at major educational centers for the blind. Wohl is seeking funding to complete development and begin mass production.

Feeling in the dark
Tactile World, an Israeli company, has developed a tactile mouse that helps blind people navigate the internet, use word-processing software, and interpret graphs and charts. The device has two pads with pins that represent Braille characters and rise and fall as the cursor moves across the screen. The mouses software also provides audio announcements and the option to have the text read aloud. The tactile mouse is more advanced and cheaper than existing Braille readers, costing $695 compared to $3,500-8,000 for a Braille reader.
