Here's how to water your plants just twice a year
Israeli startup TomGrow has developed technology that self-waters plants and delivers nutrients for six months. Their product, MediumX, consists of gel cubes filled with water that provide the right mix of water and nutrients for different plants. A wireless sensor in each planter monitors the cubes and sends reports to the customers phone or computer. TomGrows cubes have environmental benefits, as they replace peat moss and save water. The company is currently testing its product on ornamental plants in Israel and plans to expand to Europe in 2023. They aim to have 50% more indoor plants in offices, hotels, and public spaces. TomGrows first product, Selfgrow, is a complete kit that includes the planter, plants, cubes, and sensors. The company expects to enter the home market in 2023.

Israeli startup Tomgrow has launched its MediumX technology, which enables autonomous plant growth in closed environments. The technology, developed over the past three years, allows plants to grow without the need for constant watering and daily monitoring. The MediumX cubes, made up of 99% water and essential nutrients, use nanometric three-dimensional networks to retain water and provide plants with only what they need. Plants grown using MediumX require watering only once or twice a year, resulting in a 95% reduction in watering frequency and a 75% water saving compared to plants grown in regular soil. Tomgrows platform includes sensors and scanners that monitor plant conditions in real-time. The company plans to initially market the product to businesses, offices, malls, and hotels.
