UnBox Ventures Overview

UnBox Ventures is an impact creation platform that creates, curates and invests in startups founded by Bar-Ilan researchers and off-campus entrepreneurs who jointly aim to make positive global impact. UnBox's investments include a year-long mentored entrepreneurship program, co-working space and services at the UnBox Center ; pre-seed funding dedicated to product-customer validation in the global market; and a royalty-free intellectual property license. UnBox focus's on three clusters: "City" which is related to fields like: energy, mobility, waste and habitat. "Life" which puts an emphasis on innovation in the fields of: agriculture, food, and healthcare; and "Civic" which focuses on solutions regarding social harmony, justice, equality and governance.

Bar-Ilan University and Wolfson Medical Center have signed a cooperation agreement to foster medical startups based on joint research. The partnership will be facilitated through Bar-Ilans UnBox innovation center, which focuses on health sectors. The center will promote the development of new medical initiatives in collaboration with Wolfson Medical Center. The first startup from the center, based on data insights from the coronavirus, is already underway and its first pilot is expected at Wolfson. The company, Greatnix, was established by Prof. Baruch Barzel from the Department of Mathematics and doctoral student Mor Brockman from the School of Business Administration.

Bar-Ilan University has launched a revolutionary initiative, UnBox, which offers researchers entrepreneurial training that includes initial funding for project development, close guidance, and practical accompaniment in the business world. The program, which began in 2019 and is now recruiting researchers interested in joining the 2020 program, invited researchers and faculty from all fields, not necessarily from the fields of science and technology. The first cycle of the program ended successfully, with eight startups being founded.
