An instant Covid swab test that rivals PCR for accuracy
Israeli company Virusight Diagnostic has developed a 20-second Covid test that is almost as accurate as the gold-standard PCR test but at a lower cost. Clinical tests showed that the instant test was 96.3% as accurate as the PCR test. The test will be launched commercially in Europe soon and is awaiting regulatory approval in other countries. Virusights CEO, Gary Cohen, believes the test will be a gamechanger for industries dealing with the ongoing effects of Covid-19. The test uses a mouth swab and AI technology to analyze the sample and provide results within 20 seconds. Virusight is a joint venture between the ARC Innovation Center and Newsight Imaging.

Virusight Diagnostic, an Israeli company, has announced that its Pathogens Diagnostic device can detect COVID-19 with 96.3% accuracy, compared to the common RT-PCR test. The study was conducted by researchers from the University of Sannio, Italy, with partner company TechnoGenetics SpA. The device uses spectral signatures from mouth swabs and machine-learning algorithms to identify SARS-CoV-2, delivering results in 20 seconds. The device is approved as an in vitro diagnostic (IVD) device in Europe and is awaiting regulatory approval in the US, UK, Latin America, and Asia Pacific.

Super-speedy Israeli COVID test gets European approval;airport rollout planned
Israeli company Newsight has received European approval for its rapid coronavirus test, which could help kickstart international travel. The handheld SpectraLIT machine eliminates the need for complex lab equipment and provides immediate results using the spectral signature. The companys flagship product is a gargle test that generates results from a mouthwash sample. The approval allows Newsight to start rollout across the European Union. The test consistently achieves relatively high accuracy and is expected to be widely rolled out, including at airports, in the coming months. The technology can also be adjusted to detect other pathogens, making it a potential solution for future health crises.

Want to bring back major sports events and concerts? The answer may lie in a mouthwash test for COVID
Austrian startup testFRWD is offering a home-testing mouthwash kit as a solution for easier and more widespread COVID-19 testing. The kit, developed by testFRWD in partnership with diagnostics firm Lead Horizon, involves swishing a saline solution in the mouth and then sending the sample for processing at a lab. The test costs 190 euros ($225) in Austria and is already being used by police forces and schools. The startup is planning to expand its rollout to Spain, Portugal, and Germany. Other companies, such as a team in Halle, Germany, and Virusight, are also developing noninvasive testing methods using mass spectrometry. These methods aim to provide accurate and quick results for COVID-19 screening.

Israeli instant COVID gargle test set to deploy in European airports
Newsight, an Israeli company, has signed a deal with airport security giant ICTS Europe to pilot their SpectraLIT gargle test for COVID-19 in European airports. The test eliminates the need for swabbing and lab processing and works on a self-service basis. Passengers simply gargle with a special mouthwash and spit into a tube. The test is being piloted in two European airports and has already undergone pilot programs in 12 hospitals internationally. If the pilot phase proves effective, ICTS Europe plans to roll out the test internationally. The SpectraLIT test has shown around 95% accuracy in trials and relies on artificial intelligence to interpret the results. Newsight predicts that their test will become the standard solution for air travel.

Israeli hospital trials super-quick saliva test for COVID-19
Sheba Medical Center in Israel has developed a saliva test that can determine COVID-19 infection in less than a second. The test involves rinsing the mouth with a saline wash and spitting into a vial, which is then analyzed by a spectral device. The device uses machine learning to improve accuracy over time. In an initial clinical trial, the device identified evidence of the virus in the body with a 95% success rate. Sheba Medical Center has partnered with Israeli firm Newsight Imaging to bring the system to market. The test costs less than 25 cents per test and the device is expected to eventually cost less than $200.
