'Secret Sauce' Makes Plastic-Free Packaging a Real Alternative
The green packaging solution that won't pollute
Israeli startup W-Cycle has developed a polymer-based additive called SupraPulp that makes compostable fiber packaging impervious to liquid or oil leaks. The packaging, made from sugarcane waste, can replace standard plastic packaging materials and is suitable for freezer-to-oven or microwavable products. W-Cycle is in discussions with ready-meal manufacturers, an international airline catering company, and a North American business that distributes school lunches. The company aims to set up joint factories with sugar manufacturers to produce the containers. The market for sustainable packaging is growing as plastic waste becomes a major environmental concern. W-Cycles SupraPulp offers a green alternative at a similar cost to plastic packaging.
