Syngenta leads Series A for bio-herbicide startup WeedOut
Israel-based startup WeedOUT has announced the first close of a Series A funding round led by Syngenta Ventures. WeedOUT is developing a species-specific biological herbicide to tackle weeds that are resistant to chemical herbicides. The companys approach involves harvesting pollen from specific weed species, sterilizing it, and then artificially pollinating weeds in the field. The full Series A round is set to close in March 2020. Other investors in the round include CreditEase Israel Innovation Fund and Zora Ventures. WeedOUT has also received grants from the Israel Innovation Authority and the European Unions Horizon 2020 program.
