Spy Tech 'Hacks WhatsApp Encrypted Chat From A Backpack'

Israeli company Wintego is marketing a surveillance capability called CatchApp, which claims to be able to break through WhatsApp encryption and intercept all WhatsApp chats. The product works through a man-in-the-middle attack and is delivered through Wintegos WINT hacking device. Security experts are skeptical of Wintegos claims, stating that it should not be possible to crack open WhatsApp using the techniques described. Wintego was founded by alumni of Verint, another Israeli surveillance firm, and has competitors in the Wi-Fi intercept game. The companys affiliation with NK Business Ventures, a parent company or sales arm, is unclear. Human rights experts are concerned about the export and responsible use of such powerful surveillance technology.
