Somos, Inc. has announced its acquisition of XConnect, a London-based provider of global telephone number information services. XConnect will operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Somos. The acquisition aims to create a global identity management platform for the telecommunications industry. Somos is the trusted administrator of the North American Numbering Plan and handles various registries for toll-free numbers. XConnect specializes in providing telephone number intelligence to telecommunications providers. XConnect to split and focus on number information services
XConnect Global Networks, the original company founded in 2005, has gone into administration. The CEO denies that the future of the company is in doubt and states that customers and suppliers will be dealt with by the subsidiaries. The companys directors include industry names such as Ohad Finkelstein and Paul Reynolds. XConnect Services will run the emerging number information services operation, while XConnect Carrier Services will continue the legacy voice business. The number information service has evolved from the original SIP interconnectivity operation and allows network operators to reduce routing costs. The company plans to create two separate companies to hold the legacy business and pursue opportunities in the number information services business, including rich communications services and voice over LTE.
