Israeli start-up Zohar Cleantech has developed a solution to tackle the issue of municipal solid waste. The companys product, ZoharX, uses thermal gasification technology to consume waste on-site, eliminating the need for new waste disposal sites. The technology also converts household waste into energy. The company gained attention after winning an Arena Challenge competition in Herzliya. The ZoharX system will first be used in Herzliya by businesses and academic institutions for beta testing.

Zohar Cleantech, an Israeli startup, won the Arena Challenge competition on September 12 at the Arena Mall in Herzliya. The companys compact modular waste-collection system, ZoharX, produces energy from trash at the customers site and turns the remainder into a construction material. The mall will host the first pilot of the ZoharX system. The competition was part of an international summit and urban climate-technology exhibition led by Reality Group in collaboration with Herzliya’s Center of Innovation HiCity and other partners.
