Israeli start-up BreatheVision has developed a technology that remotely monitors patients breath, minimizing the exposure of medical staff to infectious diseases. The system uses triangular markers placed on the patients chest and abdomen to monitor respiratory rate and depth of breathing. The markers have a Bluetooth connection and transmit data to a tablet, computer, or smartphone. BreatheVision is currently focusing on COVID-19 patients and those recovering from surgery under anesthesia. The company will start a pilot program with Sourasky Medical Centers Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv and plans to launch two more pilots in the United States. BreatheVision has received grants from the Israel Innovation Authority.

New device makes going under sedation safer
Israeli startup BreatheVision has developed a new solution for monitoring patients breathing during surgery. The SafeSed system combines wearables and optics to provide continuous monitoring of breathing volume, addressing a gap in existing medical devices. The system includes EEG-like patches and a belt worn by the patient, as well as a camera that tracks infrared emitters. SafeSed also includes an alarm system to alert surgical staff of any breathing problems. The technology is significantly cheaper than other options on the market, with a price of less than $700 per unit. BreatheVision has identified the hospital gastroenterology department as its initial target market.
