In 2015, Bruker expanded its R&D activities by acquiring Jordan Valley Semiconductors, a provider of X-ray metrology and defect-detection equipment for semiconductor process control. This acquisition added Jordan Valley's in-line X-ray metrology to Bruker's existing X-ray metrology technologies, strengthening Bruker Semiconductor Division's position as the leading X-ray metrology system provider for advanced semiconductor applications. Bruker buys Jordan Valley Semiconductors for $53m

Jordan Valley Semiconductors, a veteran company providing measuring solutions for controlling production processes in the microelectronics industry, has been acquired by US company Bruker Corp. for $53 million. The deal includes a $30 million sale price, plus the balance of Jordan Valley Semiconductors cash, as well as $15 million in contingent payments. Elron Electronic Industries, which holds 19% of Jordan Valley Semiconductors shares, will receive $12 million immediately in the deal. Other shareholders in Jordan Valley Semiconductors include Clal Industries, Intel Capital, and the company founders. The acquisition is considered growth-negative for Jordan Valley Semiconductors.
