Brenmiller to Launch New bGen(TM) Thermal Energy Storage System for Nuclear Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) - Powering the Nuclear Resurgence
Brenmiller Energy Ltd. is advancing its thermal energy storage (TES) technology, bGen™, for integration with nuclear small modular reactors (SMRs). The company has installed its bGen™ system in Italy with Enel, a major European utility, as part of a pilot project aimed at decarbonizing combined heat and power operations. This collaboration serves as a foundation for further development of TES units tailored for SMRs, which are smaller and more flexible than traditional nuclear plants. The bGen™ systems architecture supports passive heat absorption and load following, making it suitable for SMR integration and potentially accelerating deployment in SMR-linked projects.

Top Issuer in $250 Billion ESG Bond Market Risks Trigger Event
Italian energy company Enel SpA, the largest issuer of sustainability-linked bonds (SLBs), is likely to miss its end of 2023 carbon-emissions goal due to changes in European energy policy. This could result in an estimated $27 million of additional annual interest costs. The energy crisis, sparked by Russias invasion of Ukraine, is impacting companies climate commitments. Enels failure to meet its goal would be the most significant penalty yet in the SLB market. Swedish bank SEB AB warned last month that around a third of issuers arent on track to meet their targets.

Enel, an electricity producer based in Italy, has opened its first innovation hub in Israel. The company sees innovation as necessary for its growth strategy and aims to compete with and integrate new sources of energy. The hub will connect with 300 start-ups annually and select up to 20 for a six-month program. Enel hopes that three to five of these start-ups will become commercial companies working in association with it. The hub is seen as an example of a new mode of interaction between countries and businesses, focusing on innovation partnerships. Israeli companies traditionally view corporations like Enel as sources of branding and distribution, but with the rise of startups, corporations are now seeking innovation from these startups. Enels innovation hub aims to bring together different parties and companies to foster innovation and high-tech under one roof.
