Israeli start-up Upword has developed an AI-powered tool that summarises articles and documents, reducing reading time for users. The tool analyses text and identifies key ideas and important sections, creating a live summary note alongside the article. The system currently only supports English and is limited to 50-100 pages. The platform will eventually be able to summarise YouTube videos, podcasts, and audio files. Upword has raised $2 million in pre-seed funding from investors including Fusion VC, Atooro Fund, Saar Wilf, and European telecoms giant Telefonica.

Telefonicas innovation division, Wayra X, is scouting Israeli startups for disruptive technologies in various sectors. Wayra X aims to look outside the footprints of Telefonica and discover innovation across fields and countries. The division made its first investment in an Israeli startup, Upword, which developed an AI-powered summarization and reading productivity tool. Wayra X focuses on B2C mass markets such as 5G, e-health, e-learning, smart home, entertainment, mobility, and the future of work. Wayra X is looking to add two to three Israeli startups to its investment portfolio by the end of the year.
