OurCart, a startup backed by Nielsens Innovate incubator, has launched a new app called Snapstar. The app uses receipt scanning technology to mine data from grocery receipts and incentivize shoppers for brand loyalty. Users can earn points (in the form of stars) for following brands and purchasing their products. The points can be redeemed for Amazon gift cards or used for sweepstakes entries. OurCart provides individualized data to brands on users buying habits, as well as aggregated data on purchasing patterns. The app currently has 30,000 users in the US and is in an open beta phase. Brands will be able to manage their own awarding of stars once they sign up. OurCarts closest competitors are Ibotta and InfoScout.
