Petnovations, the manufacturer of the Cat Genie, a self-flushing, self-washing cat litter box, has released its second generation product. The device, which connects to existing water lines, automatically scoops solid waste out of the box, cleans the washable litter with a sanitizing solution and then dries the granules. The litter used is biodegradable and rarely needs to be changed. The product is aimed at the 98% of cat owners who cite the litter box as their biggest problem. So far, 50,000 Cat Genies have been sold in the US, but the target is to sell more than a million within the next three to four years.

PetNovations raises $2m
Israeli start-up PetNovations Ltd. has raised an additional $2 million from existing investors. The company, founded in 2000 as Pets n People, has raised a total of $5.5 million since its inception. The funding round includes investors such as former Syneron Medical CEO Moshe Mizrahy and IHVC. PetNovations has developed an automatic self-flushing cat box. In 2007, the company had sales of $7 million.
