Western Digital, in partnership with QueenB, a non-profit that promotes programming education for girls, has launched a creative campaign to encourage girls to learn programming. The campaign, called TikTech, leverages the world of influencers and challenges on TikTok to make young Israeli girls understand that they too can code. The campaign aims to expose girls to the field of programming from a young age and plant the seeds that will grow the programmers and engineers of the future. Western Digital has been working with QueenB for several years through donations, volunteering, and direct collaboration.

QueenB and WeWork: Creating opportunities for girls in hi-tech
QueenB, an organization aimed at increasing the number of women in Israeli high-tech, has expanded its operations thanks to funding from WeWork’s Creator Awards. The organization, which was founded by two computer science students in 2017, helps middle-school students understand the opportunities available in high-tech and provides opportunities for them to get involved in the sector. The funding from WeWork has enabled QueenB to expand its activities for Computer Science university students in Haifa, Tel Aviv and Beersheva, and develop activity centers for middle-school girls in these cities.

QueenB takes a byte out of gender gap to promote diversity in tech
QueenB, a mentorship and training program for girls in middle school, aims to address the gender disparity in the tech field in Israel. The program offers basic computer and programming classes to girls, as well as sessions on gender stereotyping and famous women in computer engineering. QueenB also organizes hackathons, coding competitions, and tours of tech companies. The program recently won $72,000 at the WeWork Creator Awards, which will allow them to expand to other cities in Israel. QueenB hopes to inspire more girls to enter STEM fields and create a community of high-tech women in the future.

PICO Venture Partners, a venture capital firm, has played a key role in nurturing the tech scene in Jerusalems Talpiot neighborhood. The company has opened two workspaces that house over 40 startups and has also launched the PICO Kids project, which aims to strengthen STEEM education in Jerusalems schools. PICO Kids offers in-school and after-school programs teaching children robotics, 3D printing, and programming. Over 2,000 kids from 34 schools are enrolled in the program. PICO Group, the parent company of PICO Venture Partners, is focused on raising the next generation of entrepreneurs in Jerusalem and has collaborated with the QueenB initiative to promote programming proficiency in teenage girls. The PICO offices recently hosted a roundtable gathering of Aspen Institute Fellows.

LeadWith, a nonprofit organization empowering the female tech community in Israel, is working to reduce the gender gap in the high-tech industry. Founded in 2016 by Shira Weinberg and Dalit Heldenberg, LeadWith provides a platform for women in tech to connect, learn, and support each other. The organization has grown to include 1,600 women in high-tech and offers monthly events, mentorship programs, and an accelerator program for entrepreneurs. LeadWith recently held a hackathon to support the launch of CyberGirlz, a real-time social network for female high school students interested in tech. The goal of LeadWith is to empower women in tech and provide them with the tools they need for their careers.
